According to UNICEF, one of the most intuitive indicators of the learning crisis in low income countries is the learning poverty rate, which measures the share of  children who cannot read a simple text with comprehension by age 10. The very high level of global Learning poverty is a signal that many educational systems, despite their progress in  recent decades at improving access to schools, have not delivered learning, the magnitude of the learning challenges in low income countries is immense.

Karamzou’s child and children educational sponsorship program works within the countries we operate in to remove barriers to education. Our sponsorship program takes place through partnering with schools and the villages those schools are connected to. Our sponsorship program covers costs such as tuition, uniforms and books. Our sponsorship programs also focuses on ways to ensure children can access education. For example in Zambia where we have an extensive program for children outside of the main cities we focus on providing school transportation in villages where the distance between children's homes and school is far.
